◊◊◊◊ This summer, I’ve decided to crochet a blanket and that’s a real challenge knowing me ! ◊◊◊◊ I’ve chosen to crochet the rounds in Delight of Drops, this way every one of them is unique ! The colours are just melting with each others and gives a lovely shade of tones. I really love that part, not only because of the colour but also because I don’t get bored this way. After twelve repeats of the pattern, the blanket can really seems to be so looooooooong to crochet… Just to know, I can crochet about 12 rounds with one skein of Delight. So far, I’ve done about 4 skeins. If everything is going good, I should crochet a blanket who will do about 140 x 140 cm long, so about 140 rounds ! Good luck to me, it just left me a few hundred to do !! ◊◊◊◊ I’m crocheting the border using Coton Nat of Fonty. I’m really fond of this bio-coton, the colours are just amazing which is not negligible but it is mostly a real pleasure to work ! I like this difference between the wool and the coton, that will do, I’m sure about it, the ideal blanket for mid saison, well at least, once it will be over (if I can finish it one day…. hum hum) So far, I’ve used almost 3 skeins of Coton Nat to crochet the border of about 43 rounds. ◊◊◊◊ If with all this beautiful colours, Spring won’t show his face, I don’t know what else to do ! Sunny Spread Blanket by Ellen Gormley Skill Level : ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ because that's loooooooong ! Yarns: Drops Delight colour : #3 Blue - #08 Green - #06 Pink-Purple - #14 Purple-Green Coton Nat by Fonty - Colour : White Hook : 4 mm-G for the round and 5 mm-H for the border

◊◊◊◊ Winter’s back ! When I woke up this morning and that I saw all this snow, I enjoyed to wear my new beanie ! ◊◊◊◊ This hat is so simple and yet so clever because it’s reversible and that’s really lovely because it’s really cold outside ! ◊◊◊◊ This pattern was the perfect occasion to test this yarn named « Fado » of Fonty. I wanted to knit it since such a long time. I really loved it, this yarn is really lovely to knit, it’s really warm too (well that’s a merino’s wool) but I really do love the fact that this is an untreated yarn. You could even find occasionally some straw. ◊◊◊◊ There are two different versions of this pattern : Mino-Mino (the one that I’ve chosen) with both sides on stockinette stitches and Mino-Nomi with one side in stockinette stitches and the other side in rib. I do love Yuki H.S. patterns because she always designs them in a such simple way and it’s so easy to make some modifications too ! A real pleasure every time ! Here’s another thing that I love too : All the proceeds of this pattern are donated to the Minoru Hokari Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Australian National University in memory of her late brother, Minoru Hokari (“Mino” 1971-2004) died of cancer at the age of 32. So the scholarship fund supports young scholars who study Indigenous Australians through fieldwork. To meet Mino and know his workPlease visit Being Connected with HOKARI MINORU and Nimara & Japarta Facebook page to discovering Yuki’s designs ! ◊◊◊◊ A simple pattern, quickly knitted, warm and lovely, what more could I ask !! Do you like it too ? Mino-Nomi Reversible Hat by Nimara & Japarta Skill Level : ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ Yarn : Fonty Fado / Colour #660 - White & #663 - Brown 100 g / 272 yards - 248 m Needle Size US 8 / 5 mm

—————————————————————————————————————— Knitting lace is delicate, it requiers some preparations who is always different according to the knitters. I’m about to give you mine. 1rst : Ravelry Before even to cast on, I have a look on the differents existing projects about the pattern choosen. This is just like a bank of precious informations available just waiting for us. We can see wich yarn was previously used, discovering new colours that we didn’t know, look at the differents needled sizes used and see how the final project will turned out. Does this shawl will looks good with this colour, with yarn ? Ravelry can help you to answerd this question most of time ! I love this and it helps me a lot to define my final yarn’s or needle size’s choice but sometimes it happens that we want to knit a new yarn for a project that no one used before us. That’s what happened when I decide to knit my first lace’s shawl Betta loves Shetland with a light fingering yarn : malabrigo sock using needle size US 6. So it leads us to something really important…. 2nd : The Swatching I know, I know, swatching is not soooo important, maybe for a sweater or a cardigan but seriously, who is swatching for a lace scarf / shawl / cowl ? To be honest, I do not swatch often, I didn’t do it for the Betta loves Shetland Shawlette but between us, it wasn’t a real challenge because I could see lot of lace project with this yarn using this needle ! Not much a surprise for the final result isn’t it ! But if you don’t know a fiber that you want to knit, it’s not something that you want to neglect if you don’t want to have any bad surprised with your FO’s ! You need to swatch to get to know this fiber once washed and blocked, once it became a fabric. For a new lace cowl, I wanted to use a 100% Linen fiber : « Calin » from Fonty. I have look at Ravelry and have just found 11 previous projects using it, well now 12 with mine ! Not enough in my mind to get a real idea with my project. So I swatched ! I could learn this way that Linen does not slip easely from my needles, that I didn’t like the look of the ribs with size US 4 (looks too loosely for me) and that Linen is not stretchy at all once blocked ! But let’s be clear, I just loved how it turns out ! It is shiny and really soft to the touch, I’m so glad about it and can’t wait to wear my new summer cowl ! Hopefully, swatching helps me to get to know this new fiber. It is even much more important if you’re knitting a project who’s using a yarn that you don’t know at all because it’s not available in your country. That’s the most tricky thing ever because you are even more in the dark. Every fibers – yarns are differents and will not look the same at the end, even if the gauge given is the same. Look at my Yukimi ! That’s the perfect exemple of failure ! In my mind, swatching is always a huuuge brainstorming ! I have too many questions crossing my mind but once I’ve done everything, I can almost peacefully start my new project. I said almost because now comes another part of the preparation but I will tell you more about it in my next post.
